In Japan in cinema/TV American movies are in English with Japanese subtitles or dubbed?

At movie theaters, most films are shown in the original language with Japanese subtitles. Really big blockbusters and movies for family audience often have dubbed versions as well.

On free TV, most are dubbed. On pay TV, the situation is the same as the movie theater: most are subtitled but some are available in both subtitled and dubbed versions. In Japan in cinema/TV American movies are in English with Japanese subtitles or dubbed?they do both. here is one dubbed.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xyuL5urzE鈥?/a>

They also subtitle it. It is funny when they dub it because they treat the voice actors like they are the real actors in the movie.

They also do it for tv shows to. as seen here.

Why do phone numbers, in American movies, always begin with 555?

Because any number starting with 555 is not a real telephone number. If they put a random number on there, you know people would try calling it. That's what happened after that "867-5309" song came out. The person with that number had to get a new one.Why do phone numbers, in American movies, always begin with 555?i donno mine starts wiv 04Why do phone numbers, in American movies, always begin with 555?
    Lmaoo i neva noticed!

    LOL

:DWhy do phone numbers, in American movies, always begin with 555?Because we don't have any real numbers that start with 555, so it's an easy way to make sure you don't accidentally give out a number for people to randomly dial. You remember that crappy song with the number? 867-5309? Imagine if you had that number.
the phone company owns them...AT%26amp;T..try it out...use your area code then 555-1212...should be the weather info...that at%26amp;t uses. Why do phone numbers, in American movies, always begin with 555?i havent a clue hun

do ya notice that they never arrange a time either..and they dont say goodbye, they just say their crap and hang up

Mornin M ;)Why do phone numbers, in American movies, always begin with 555?
because then you know their not real numbers %26amp; dont call them.
    Book_worm got it right.

The prefix 555 is a prefix which doesn't exist except for use in movies and television so as to avoid possibly matching actual numbers such as happened with the 867-5309 song. Why do phone numbers, in American movies, always begin with 555?
    I don't know%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;that's just the movies!
NOT BEING ALLOWED TO SMOKE MAY BE THE REASON
its a number they agreed upon.. to not accidentally call people with a real number.... so movies and tv shows stuck with this number...
iv seen that on the small soldiers movie

other than that, i havent noticd lol
Haha reminds me of this song.

Hi,there. How May I find DVDs and movies that explains and introduces American famous cities?thank you.?

I am going to apply for Ph.D in american universities, so I am searching to find the right choice between american major cities.

movies that can give me some information about the American cities, their environment, culture and so is pleasant.Hi,there.How May I find DVDs and movies that explains and introduces American famous cities?thank you.?You don't say where you are.

I know that American local libraries have a lot of this sort of thing.Hi,there.How May I find DVDs and movies that explains and introduces American famous cities?thank you.?You don't choose your Ph.D program by what city it's in.

You choose by which Ph.D program is the very best one that you can possibly get into, for your field of study.

So, first you should contact the schools that have the Ph.D program that you are interested in. Look over their literature, their classes, talk with the schools even, to determine if their Ph.D program is right for you.

When you have decided on maybe two or three top universities that would meet your needs, only THEN do you bring in considerations like "what is the city about".

So at that point you would have two or three cities to learn about, and if all is pretty equal on the Ph.D programs between the 2-3 universities, THEN you can look at what city you might like best.

So if you have done that, then you can see only two or three cities instead of having to decide between dozens of cities.

  • Are American movies popular in UK?

I'm curious...I always wanna know tid-bits about little countries like England, Libya, etc...so are American movies popular in England? And do you guys have your own movie industry? Cuz I've never heard of it...is it because of heavy competition against Hollywood? Are American movies popular in UK?Some american movies are popular here, but you forget that a lot of the most famous american movies were made here.

Star Wars and the Empire Stikes Back

    Superman

    Alien

    Gladiator

And according to wikipedia just the last few years had

    Finding Neverland

    V for Vendetta

    Closer

    Batman Begins

    Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

    United 93

    The Phantom of the Opera

    The Golden Compass

    Sweeney Todd

    The Wolf Man

    Fantastic Mr. Fox

    Nine

    Robin Hood

    British movie successes

    The King's Speech

    All the Harry Potters

    All the Bond movies

We do all right I think. Are American movies popular in UK?
American films are very popular in the UK, this is the current UK top ten:

    1 Tangled

    2 The King's Speech

    3 Black Swan

    4 The Mechanic

    5 The Dilemma

    6 The Green Hornet

    7 Hereafter

    8 Gulliver's Travels

    9 127 Hours

    10 How Do You Know

The UK does have it's own film industry, with quite often works hand in hand with the American film industry, producing film series like the Harry Potter and the various James Bond films. Successful British films from the past ten years include:

Bridget Jones's Diary grossing $254 million worldwide

    Mamma Mia! grossing $601 million

    Love Actually grossing $239 million

    Slumdog Millionaire grossing $311 million

British studios such as Pinewood, Shepperton and Leavesden also were used in the filming of major American films, including Batman Begins, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, V for Vendetta, and many others.

Britain has also produced a large number of well known directors inculding Chistopher Nolan, Ridley Scott, Tony Scott, Paul Greengrass, Danny Boyle, Sam Mendes, and many others. Are American movies popular in UK?Escher 127 Hours is a BRITISH FILM along with The Kings Speech (You really thought a film starring Colin Firth playing the King of Britain was American?)

I wouldn't say they are popular, it is because they are dominant because you have too much money and can produce crap after crap. Britain has a great industry and some of the best movies you will ever watch. Anyone who says British films are bad will probably have a very limited knowledge of cinema. Europe produces by far some of the best films where America of course has a great film industry but 95% of those films are crap and only exist for profit. Are American movies popular in UK?
Some of them are obviously I don't know if all of them are but i know the big ones defiantly are.Are American movies popular in UK?This is Australia speaking but British movies SUCK, they have to watch yank movies

Does anyone know about the movie American Quilt and/or Along Came a Spider and the old "Hitcher" movies?

I bought them but I don't have time to look at them. which one would be the best one to watch first - the hottest?Does anyone know about the movie American Quilt and/or Along Came a Spider and the old "Hitcher" movies?Definately the old "Hitcher" movie - the remake was terrible. "Along Came a Spider" is a great movie but you should watch "Kiss the Girls" first because it's somewhat a prequel. The detective, Alex Cross, is the same %26amp; it came out first. Enjoy...

Does anyone know about the movie American Quilt and/or Along Came a Spider and the old "Hitcher" movies?hitcher, would be the first one i'd watch.

    then along came a spider.

How do i get my Japanese. import Psp to read American UMD Movies?

I either want to change the Region code so i can watch it, or try and somehow fake it to read it...How do i get my Japanese. import Psp to read American UMD Movies? The japanese import has no region code, so i dont see why it wont read, as for the movie, it might have a region code, My friend has a white psp import and his works fine besides the annoying movies that HAVE to have a region code. How do i get my Japanese. import Psp to read American UMD Movies? All PSP's have a region code. The only thing is, it affects movies, not games. I can play any import game I want on my even if i didn't have a custom firmware, but you cannot play movies that are not of that region code. I would say get a custom firmware installed on it (www.maxconsole.com will have details on that in their forums). Be careful about that though, it requires flashing you systems internal memory, so there is a small small small small chance it will brick (can't be used)

If you do install a custom firmware (go with 3.03 OEC not 3.10 OEA) go into your recovery menu (hold the R button as it boots) and change the region code to the code of the movie, then it should play.

  • American Movies with German Subtitles?

I want to learn German, and along with taking classes and such I want to watch some movies that have German subtitles and are in English. I've found a number of movies in German with English subtitles, but I'd like to find some American movies subtitled in German. I was wondering what widely available American movies have the option of being subtitled in German, because all my dvds are only subtitled in French and Spanish. American Movies with German Subtitles? You can look on amazon.de or ebay to find DVDs you are looking for. Usually, though, if it is in German w/ English subtitles, you should be able to change that in the Language Features. Good Luck!

I have to do a research project on a movie pertaining to American History...any ideas of movies?

i have to research the validity of the movie and compare it to what actually happened in history. Although to me this sounds like something on the easy side, i cant seem to think of movies about American history. i would like to stray from war movies though because that would be a lot of research

thank you!I have to do a research project on a movie pertaining to American History...any ideas of movies?Try star wars. All the scenes with ewoks are pretty accurateI have to do a research project on a movie pertaining to American History...any ideas of movies?
there is a movie on umm... the Alamo or remember the alamo idk what is is called but, the directer basically hired the actors that looked like the people and they shot the movie in the same place that the Alamo took place it is the best movie for that war thing it is almost completely accurate and would be really easy. i found studying this topic really cool. there is like a million and one movies on like black history and you would probably know a lot of facts on it already, there is also a movie called double jeopardy which is basically about the 5th or 6th amendment on the bill of rights, it is not really history but it teaches you about the amendment.I have to do a research project on a movie pertaining to American History...any ideas of movies?A few years ago there was a movie that came out about Amelia Earhart. That might be of interest for you. I would also think about Titanic, however the movie was seriously dramatized. There is a lot of historical facts about the sinking, but it may be difficult to conpaire and contrast. You said that you would like to stay away from war movies, but Perl Harbor might be fairly easy because it was based on only a few events rather than theentirer war. If early American history interest you, there are several movies based on Louis and Clark. Hope this is helpful to you.

the patriot is a really good movie about the revolutionary war. It may require some research but the movie does a really good job of explaining exactly what is going on. I am usually not one to like historical movies, but I thought this one was very full of action and exciting. Even if you do not choose to do your project on this, I suggest this movie even for enjoyment. I also think it may be easier to write a paper on it because there are so many big events that happen instead of very few to write about.

The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly.

While the Civil War rages between the Union and the Confederacy, three men -- a quiet loner (Clint Eastwood), a ruthless hit man and a Mexican bandit -- comb the American Southwest in search of a strongbox containing $200,000 in stolen gold. In his third classic spaghetti Western with Eastwood, director Sergio Leone continues to shake up the genre with stylish photography, a hefty dose of cynicism and an instantly recognizable score.
    Try the movie MalcomX

it's a good movie (might be a little offensive if you're racist) but it's not a very long movie and has lots of simple and good details

Had to watch it my Jr. year of high school in American History class and do a 2 page report on it, so I know it has great details, I did a 10 page report on it and could've done more it had lots of good and juicy details
"1776" could be fun. It's a movie of the musical about the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

"The Birth of a Nation" is a bit more... history project worthy... It's dated, but it was a huge marker in the history of not only American film, but film world wide.
I'm not sure if this has already been suggested but I would highly recommend the movie milk. Its an excellent movie and deals with some big issues in america's history that still run through to today. wether or not you support what its about you have to recognize that it did have an impact. I would suggest watching it even if you don't chose it for your report. good luck!
"Tuskegee Airmen" - This isn't a war movie per-se, but a PBS show about a particular point of military history. Also, "Mutiny" another more tragic story along the same lines...Hope that helps...
Do the American Girl movie Molly. It is pretty good. Haha it would be very easy to compare. Any of the american girl movies would be easy. I personally like the Kit Kitteredge one from the great depression. All american girl movies are based on historical events. Here is the website you need to go to for more information: www.americangirl.com have fun!
forest gump! what a classic. %26lt;3 this movie. in cause u havent heard of it, its about this guy forest whose a little slow but he sees lots of important parts of american history like veitnam and segrigation, u could talk about lots of things that arent wars and since theres a lot u can just write a litle bit about it all. really good movie, it makes me cry everytime but its worth it :)
There's been plenty of movies about The Alamo.

Any movie about Billy The Kid ( there is "The Left Handed Gun" starring Paul Newman ) would make for a very interesting project because there was a old fellow named Brushy Bill Roberts who many believe really was Billy The Kid:

    http://www.angelfire.com/mi2/billythekid鈥?/a>
I had a similar project when I was in school and I DIDN'T WANT TO DO it on any wars so I did it on The Buddy Holly Story.. The Day the Music Died. My teacher was blown away with my report and it was the funnest thing I ever did in school. I really learned so much about the history of music in the USA.
i know you didn't want a war movie but PLATOON is an american classic. its a vietnam one and is very realistic and full of emotion just as the war was in fact. cant go wrong with this one. every video rental store or netflix is guaranteed to have this one.
    Birth of a Nation

It's a really racist movie from 1915 about reconstruction and the "new south"

you could definitely find tons of discrepancies between the ways the KKK is depicted and the real stuff that went on between whites and blacks

What impact did radio and movies have on american culture?

May I please have a simple but sorta detailed explanation? What impact did radio and movies have on american culture? The invention of radio and the movies had a vast impact on American culture. The world of entertainment was available to almost everybody in the United States. For instance David Sarnoff, head of RCA, wanted to bring classical music into most American homes because of the radio, The radio made it possible for news to travel instantanously to most Americans. It made the people of the U.S. more informed. It gave a vast audience to entertainers like Jack Benny, Fred Allen, Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby, Duke Ellington and others.

Everybody could hear the "Big Bands" like the Dorseys, Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman, etc. just by turning on the radio. The movies were responsible for making stars like Gloria Swanson, Shirley Temple, Mary Pictford, famous. Before the movies, Broadway stars and Vaudeville stars were known only to a limited audience. The movies became one of America's major art forms. The invention of the movies had a great impact on how America saw itself as well as the rest of the world did. Because movies went all around the world. Televiasion later continued the process. I hope that thyis has been a help to you. What impact did radio and movies have on american culture?Thank you voters. But what a waste of time!

Does anybody know good movies i could analyze to write about the American education?

it's for my english class, so any movie with school setting won't do. it has to have something to do with American education. i have to answer questions like: what are the issues presented in the movie? what it means to the society at large? how is the problem resolve in the movie, how does it relates to real education problems?

please help i seriously can't think of any movie.Does anybody know good movies i could analyze to write about the American education?Stand and Deliver.

Not sure exactly what you need but this movie is quite inspirational as concerns the American school system. It was made in the 80's but is still quite relevant to today, if not more so.

Also, the musical 1776 is a lot of fun. The miniseries Roots would be good, too.
There are loads of movies in a variety of genres that may suit this purpose. You may want a run and gun war movie like patton, we were soldiers, or the green berets. There are also many dramas like failsafe, or you may want a comedy like the mouse that roared or dr. strangelove.
Remember there are three sides to every story theres, yours and the truth. These movies are entertaining pertaining to American history, The Patriot, Patton, Northwest Passage(Lewis and Clark expedition, and a little brutal). and if you can find it Johnny Tremaine, a young boy that was a credit to our country, and Amistad.

    Do Brits watch American movies?

I've heard American movies, TV shows, and songs are popular in England. Is that true?

Is the British movie industry, if there is one, pressured by heavy marketing on part of the Americans?Do Brits watch American movies? We have pretty much the same films as you do, there are British films as well but nowhere near as many you've probably seen them as well things like 28 weeks later, Atonement, St Trinians, Hot Fuzz and Elizabeth the golden age came out last year.

I think music films and TV move back and forward because we have the same language, you country has a larger population so we receive more of you stuff than you do of ours but its all good.

There is pressure on our film industry but there will always be a market for it particularly comedy because we have different senses of humour and its very rare to see an American comedy that compares with a British one.Do Brits watch American movies?
Yeah. And TONS of American tv shows too.Do Brits watch American movies?WE do. But we really don't have much of a choice. We (The English) don't have such a powerful movie industry such as Hollywood %26amp; Bollywood. So therefore, we either watch the American movies and tv shows. Or nothing at all.
Yes; the British movie industry is much less prominent than that in the US; so unlike television they have relatively little domestic movie material to watch. American and Indian movies make up the majority of what's available in the UK. (It still beats those crappy French 'art' films.)Do Brits watch American movies?Everyone watches American TV.Do Brits watch American movies?
Lots of people do as the USA makes so many more movies, but I can't stand watching movies/films at the cinema and prefer British TV, especially comedy. I'm not really keen on USA comedy shows and British TV comedy shows are more popular in Britain. The only USA comedy shows I really enjoy are ones that have British writers such as the Simpsons as the humour is similar to what I like. It's mostly kids who like the silly story lines of Hollywood movies, as they all seem to be about making as many as possible to sell to as many idiots as possible, but now and again Hollywood makes a real gem. Lots of people think the historical Hollywood movies are silly, as the story lines are nearly always changed to make the USA look better than really happened. My favourite movies are the old British movies as the story lines are nearly always good and last the test of time. My favourite film of all time is Lawrence of Arabia.

I'm not sure if Britain is pressured by Hollywood, as we're proud of our good quality acting tradition, so I think they would rather churn out less and keep them good quality and the cinema owners have a lot of Hollywood films to keep them going too.

Sometimes they have Indian films on the British TV and I always can't help watching until the end as the story lines are good.

edit: why did you miss out Charlie Chaplin, Clive? Audrey Hepburn was British too. Bob hope and Dirk Bogarde, Dirks name was really Derek.

I don't really think of Hollywood as American, as there are more people from other countries who make and star in the movies. If you think of the population of the USA, there are more % of people in Hollywood from other countries with smaller populations. I think of it as more as the capital of big budget film making. The same as the Nasa rockets to the moon were German as the rocket makers such as Werner Von Braun could no longer work in Europe and atom bombs were British.
Yes of course. We all speak english (sort of). We watch Australian and Canadian television and movies also for that reason. Americans also watch British TV and Movies (Doctor Who, 28 days later, Gordon Ramsay, The Weakest Link, anything with Simon Cowell, enigma, four weddings and a funeral, the italian job, lock stock and 2 smoking barrels, James Bond, Zulu, Evita, Shakespeare in Love, Ghandi, Sense and Sensibility, Billy Elliot, Benny Hill, Eddie Izzard, Little Britain, The Omen, How Clean is your House, Chariots of Fire, Love Actually, Trainspotting, Shaun of the Dead, the 39 steps etc.) So yes, there sort of is a movie industry....

Also don't forget that Cary Grant, one of the icons of American cinema was from Bristol, England. We mix and match our actors now depending on the roles so many Brits are working in American TV (Cat Deeley, Anna Friel in Pushing Daisies, Michelle Ryan in Bionic Woman, Hugh Laurie in House).Do Brits watch American movies?
Yes, everything you ask in your question is true. American culture is not just popular here in UK, it is very popular and has been for a very long time.

For a moment, let's go back to 1776. At that time, about half the population of UK supported the Revolutionary War - not just with words, but also with money.

Josiah Wedgewood Esq., artisan maker of fine porcelain, was busy making cameo broaches of the American Revolutionary leaders. Some of the profits from the sale of these broaches, which people wore openly on the streets of London, was used to help finance the Continental Army.

If you think of the history of the Hollywood Movie Industry, you will soon appreiciate how quickly and why it became so popular here in UK. Here's a couple of examples : . . . . .

Here's one very famous Englishman who made it BIG in Hollywood and who even today is still popular

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xoKbDNY0Z鈥?/a>

    Buster Keaton

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zsyRhRR5I鈥?/a>

That scene you have just seen is staggering in it's daring and even now is just awesome.

In my childhood here in UK in the 1950s, here are some of the famous US TV shows which we enjoyed : . . . .

    I Love Lucy

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n1Yfz-u17鈥?/a>

    Rawhide

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5SFnvLC83鈥?/a>

    Champion the Wonder Horse

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-5i_pEYGe鈥?/a>

More modern US TV shows, sitcoms and soaps, include these : . . . .

    Third Rock from the Sun

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G9f4TJ8XN鈥?/a>

    Jon Stewart etc

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aFQFB5YpD鈥?/a>

Meanwhile at the Movies - we have always enjoyed such as these : . . . .

    Ethel Merman

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=icr71H1nb鈥?/a>

Gene Kelly - Singing in the Rain

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rmCpOKtN8鈥?/a>

    Fred Astaire

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j02k9t4rP鈥?/a>

Note: Fred Astaire was famous in England from the 1920s where he performed live on stage around the country at many theaters.

There is if you like, a sort of mutual exchange going on between UK and USA when it comes to entertainment.

Even today, I still no not understand how this purely English comedy ever took hold in the States - but it did and the rest as we know is history : . . . . .

    Bugs Bunny

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cHQZBXJxC鈥?/a>
Good question, this, and yes, American culture is popular here in England (though not American sports). There is a British movie industry, and British actors and studios are in constant use for American films.

Most British filmmakers, if they are after big box office, have an eye on the large American market, though how much that affects their creative decisions I couldn't say.

PS - I must correct one thing the previous contributor (above) says: Bugs Bunny is in no way, shape or form a British creation, coming from the inspired mind of Tex Avery - from Texas!
Yes American movies are watched in almost every country... songs, TV shows ...but the one thing the English do best of all are their TV dramas and comedy's.

Although the American comedy has come on so much over the years..like Frasier... I still think the English do Drama and Comedy the best...I'm not English.
Yeh there's loads, so much that it sounds wierd when an English character comes on the programme!! (e.g. in Friends etc) I'd say about 2/3 of what we watch is American (films and TV) the other 1/3 is British stuff and some Aussie soaps!
Far too many yank imports - am talking with an American drawl now
yes we do watch American films

    they are popular over here

but we do make our own films

    alot of them
All my favourite movies and sitcoms are American. They're extremely popular here especially with teenagers and children. The Disney channel is so popular I know a number of children (including myself when i was younger) who started saying 'math' instead of 'maths' and 'pants' instead of 'trousers' from watching too much shows like Hannah Montana haha. I also find whilst watching Friends or something when an English person comes on it does sound weird!
yeah we do watch your TV shows and movies their out all the time and there is a British movie and television industry

TV bigger though have you never heard of the BBC

but alot of American TV shows are remakes of British ones

they've been remade for the American market the link below is a list of all British TV shows which have been remade for the American market.

How is american ideology depicted in superhero movies?

I'm a film student, and i'm doing a project on how american ideology is depicted in the films; 1989 Batman, The dark knight and Iron man. I'm looking at issues such as the ideal body image, the depiction of women-and their roles as damsels in distress, religion and american patriotism. Any comments or ideas would be amazing! How is american ideology depicted in superhero movies? The use of superheros is a way of reinforcing stereotypes and gender role the male usually being the strong hero and the female being weak and such.It also uses the subject of justice as a way of showing as sign of deviant behaviour in society will be met with punishmentHow is american ideology depicted in superhero movies? The super hero reinforces the idea that might is right, that ultimately the solution to problems is a whack from a super-strong fist. How is american ideology depicted in superhero movies?i don't really know, however i do think you smell and have a problem with your general Hygiene. What current images of Asian-American men do you find on television and in the movies? Are they positive, negative, stereotyped or realistic? What current images of Asian-American men do you find on television and in the movies?Foreigners. They are mostly portrayed as foriegn people that speak english poorly. Also martial artists at least half of the asian dudes on tv and movies are doing kung fu. I'm not sure how realistic the portrayal is since the only asian people i know sound and act american. That is something you really never see with dudes here.

oh yeah for example my buddy told me that Jin from Lost speaks perfect english in real life and speaks really bad korean on the show because he doesn't know the language well in real life. and also his asian amercian accent is real phony. hell even i could tell that. What current images of Asian-American men do you find on television and in the movies?I have seen some in Lost, Heroes, Hawaii 5-0, and the Green Hornet. Most of them are portrayed as non -english speakers from Asia rather than Asian Americans. It is greatly stereotyped, especially their names. ex: chin ho from Hawaii 5-0What current images of Asian-American men do you find on television and in the movies? On TV, usually cops or tech guys who don't get promoted! Negative stereotyping. Here in Vancouver the chief of police is Chinese.

  • American movies with german subtitles/languages?

We have guests from Germany and we want to show them some American movies, but their children do not understand it, so I was wondering if there are any movies that came out recently with either an option to put the language to German or to put on subtitles that are German. All help is appreciated.American movies with german subtitles/languages?Depends on what kind of movies you are looking for.

But I guess most ( recent ) american blockbusters on DVD have an option to switch either to german language or subtitle...just go on your DVD menu to the Audio / SetUp option and choose your language and subtitle.

Another option is, which is a bit more tricky and needs more effort, to download subtitles for certain movies and than create your own DVD.

http://www.opensubtitles.org/en Free to choose and create! If your movie is available!

But most DVD movie should have an option to switch on german subtitles and language...like

...just an example for a real god family movie for the kids of all ages!American movies with german subtitles/languages?try to buy a movie from the german Amazon, www.amazon.de They are nearly all in German and English and even have sometimes more other languages available.

Are American High Schools Really that bad , as in the teen-movies?

I have been blessed to live in different countries as a kid , in Africa Asia and Europe , I went through different educational institutes , but never in The USA.

What I see in the American Movies is kids being so mean to each other , especially the so called 'cool'kids , they are so mean to the 'nerds'and so on....

Whats up with all that , are schools like that in USA?Are American High Schools Really that bad , as in the teen-movies?god thats scary , I was very popular didnt cross my mindAre American High Schools Really that bad , as in the teen-movies?
I don't know.....for I have been home-schooled since 5th grade. I am a teen myself and I really do think that High School's are very bad places to be. I mean granted, you get to make friends, but you also have LOTS of peer pressure. I think that they are worse!

God Bless!!Are American High Schools Really that bad , as in the teen-movies?No.
Don't believe everything you see in a movie. Are American High Schools Really that bad , as in the teen-movies?YES! but no... I too spent lots of time overseas - (UK, France, Spain, Germany, South Africa, and Japan. And for the most part it hits the nail on the head. Others might not see it that way but thats because they probably never stepped foot out of there neighborhood. Are American High Schools Really that bad , as in the teen-movies?
Yes, they are exactly as portrayed in the movies.

(I'm only kidding. The movies are make-believe. The schools are both better and worse than what you see on the screen.)
    no they are worse

in the movies there is always a happy endingAre American High Schools Really that bad , as in the teen-movies?
I would like to think it isn't that way all over the USA, but sadly, where I went to high school *South Florida* that's how it seemed to be. The Princesses only talked to the jocks and other Princesses. The nerds got picked on by everyone and so on. I never really had a category myself *I'm kinda a nerd, but my older cousin was one of the most popular guys there, so I was accepted by the "cool" kids by association. But I can proudly say I never looked down or treated anyone else badly.
unfortunatetly yes the cool kids do sometimes make fun of the "nerds" but not to that extreme that the hollywood movies do there are really just people trying to fit in but american schools arent that bad in my opinion i wasnt what you called popular but i did hang out with some people known a lot around the school my friends didnt care about the other people the thing is everyone thinks they are being judged but really people are just worried about themselves
Yep, and the bullies are so well hidden from the teachers that the other kids have to ban together to be able to have their lunch money at lunch.
    Yup, its just like that.

It seems that the worse you treat people the "cooler" people think they are. Its sad but true....
Yes they are. The cool kids treat the others like crap. I know because I'm one of those nerds. I mind my own business, I don't talk to anyone, I sit in my dark corners in the library yet people always feel they have to torment me just because I don't socialize, I don't wear make-up, I don't follow their fashion trends, I don't join their clubs or sports, I don't listen to their music, I'm proud of my glasses and braces. Most of my friends are nerds too, and they have been tormented too. I've seen people get teased, ridiculed, mocked, tormented, beaten up, I've seen people stealing from them, getting their books and hiding them just to annoy them, hitting them, spreading rumors about them, writing nasty stuff about them, throwing things at them. It's a really big blow to ones self esteem. Cool kids have always felt the need to mock those beneath them, they always have and they always will. But as for me, I just have to endure one more year of the hell that is high school then I'm free I tell you, FREE!!!!!! *evil laugh* Then I will come back for my 10th year high school reunion and rub my success and money in their snobby, fat faces and laugh, laugh like they laughed at me!!!!.....Ok sorry, I'm getting carried away. The point is that yes high school is hell, just like it's portrayed in the movies.

Why do so many countries watch American movies?

I mean, they're really up-to-date on American movies and celebrities (Especially France)........Do they all understand english or something?

In general, we Americans don't know a lot about other countries' entertainment industries/stars- Is it just because our media is not focused on other countries or we just don't care? Why do so many countries watch American movies? The American film industry has generally done a couple of things very right. One is that it is exceptionally good at telling stories in a way that people enjoy. It does this through good scripts but mostly by having very high production values. The films just look great: They are well lit, professionally edited and have excellent sound. The actors are well cast, and are dressed and made-up very nicely. All of these things are called "production values," and nobody does it consistently as well as Hollywood.

That doesn't mean that only big-time Hollywood movies are good movies... that's not true at all. But generally, Hollywood knows what people want to see and it delivers with very high production values. That is a big reason why Hollywood movies are popular internationally.

Some foreign countries have consistent winners, such as the James Bond series, which is British-based. Again, generally speaking these films have production values that are equal to Hollywood's -- that's one thing that makes even a bad James Bond film fun to watch.

I like Jackie Chan films and he made plenty of good ones in Hong Kong. But his American films did better internationally, because they just LOOK better and tell a sharper story.

Anyway, those are a couple of reasons why the American film industry leads the world in box office receipts. Why do so many countries watch American movies?

That is one of best exports.
Many countries translate them into English, it's funny to see so many actors speaking a foreign language. Why do so many countries watch American movies?More movies are produced in American theaters. Many overseas movies are shown in subtitles. The same goes with tv. While deployed, we get european channels on the tv. MTV France plays more american songs than french songs. Exclusive possession or control: arrogantly claims to have a monopoly on the truth.

Because American movies have the most famous actors, the biggest budgets and are about subjects that everyone finds interesting. Most films are packaged differently (new logos, posters, etc) and are in English with whatever language subtitles. Sometimes they even record over the English with another language, usually French or Spanish. Unlike America, the rest of the world is bi or even tri-lingual so many other people do understand English, but it just so happens that they aren't as ethnocentric as we are and aren't afraid of foreign films. Why do so many countries watch American movies?
They don't have to understand English. They have voice actors in that language do voice overs for the American movies. Plus they get the movies that they're countries produce. Americans don't get those movies because I doubt they would be able to appreciate foreign art. That includes music. We just don't care. I mean, would you want to listen to a German rapper over here? Didn't think so.

So basically, other countries get it better than us, they get our movies, our music, our food, our style and our nukes. Lucky them, eh?
here in Egypt we like American movies so much because they're realistic and good .
    1. The american studios are huge and products lots of movies for acceptable price. USA is just the biggest factory for making movies.

    2. The movies are either dubbed to other languages, so the viewers watch them translated and talked in their motherly tongue. In some other countries they leave the original sound and there are subtitles in their language.

    3. I cant answer you the second part of your question "we Americans don't know a lot about other countries' entertainment industries/stars- Is it just because our media is not focused on other countries or we just don't care?". I am not American so I cant judge it. In every case it is really pity if you dont have there more movies from other countries. Not just for knowing the other countries stars but also because you could recognise other countries culture, fun, problems, life-style, characters, opinions and etc. And to see it via a movie is bigger fun than to learn about other countries only at school of course - in some of the good movies you can see at least a bit the "sould" of the country that made the film and it can be really enriching.
All previous answers are very good. I would add, having grown up in French Canada that the sheer magnitude of Hollywood movie budgets dwarfs other countries' attempts to compete with american movies. But there are still lots of excellent movies out there... one of the major obstacle to having exposure to those in the US is, I believe, the distribution system. Film distributors make decisions about which films they will chose to be shown on US screens. I would assume those decisions have a large financial component to them, and that probably limits the number of foreign movies we have the opportunity to see here.

What is a common theme between two movies, Fight Club and American Beauty?

I need write 8 pages long comparative essay about a theme of these movies. Please sennd information in detail? And a structure comparative essay. What is a common theme between two movies, Fight Club and American Beauty?is it safe to assume that you've sen them? if not then that's the first step. and they are fantastic films so you should watch them anyway.

the are the same in the sense that the characters undergo major changes psychologically. thats really all i can think of right now sorryWhat is a common theme between two movies, Fight Club and American Beauty? Both are really great movies- you should rent them and find out.

Do British people watch American movies?

I was wondering......do you guys watch our movies? Cuz I've never heard of a British movie industry, so I'm assuming that you guys do.

And can you guys understand us? Cuz I have a real hard time understanding British accents. This one British dude in my school came from the north of england, liverpool or whatever, and it's really REALLY hard to understand him. But he can understand us easily.Do British people watch American movies?Yes of course we do.Your CSi's series were popular at one time too.

We do have a film industry but its more well intellecual than the basic hollywood crap. Film4 etc. The Old Eaking studios made 10000's of films.

Accents all over the world sometimes difficult to understand. I am Welsh from the same city as Catherine Zeta Jones an we can be difficult to understand. But I would hate to live without accents.

So you do need to travel a bit more.Do British people watch American movies?
Britain certainly does have a film industry which produces some fantastic films. The main difference between British films and American ones is that nothing gets blown up, no cars get destroyed and no one gets murdered.

But yes, we do also watch American films and yes, we do try to understand you. It isn't easy, but we manage.

I can't remember who it was who said that Britain and America are two countries divided by the same language.Do British people watch American movies?Yes we do have a British Film Industry, it is not as large as it was gong back to the Fifties and Sixties, when it was famous for producing the Hammer Horror Films, Ealing Comedies, and Carry on Films, but it produces some very avant garde cinema, and is still very successful.

As for Hollywood films, these dominate, and the 'Blockbusters' you have are the same ones here, we also show large numbers of your TV shows on our satellite channels, Heroes is something of a hit here, although personally I just think it is a pooimitationon of the X-men, 24, and many more, the Simpsons, South Parandmd Family Guy are all shown, as is Jerry Springer!

Therefore it makes life easy when it comes to us understanding your accents, we hear them every day.

As for some English accents, we can have problems at times, Liverpool(Scouse) is actually one of the easier ones, Newcastle-upon-tyne has Geordie, and that is almost another language, some of the Yorkshire and Durham dialects can be very strange, and the more rural West Country, Welsh, Irish and Scottish ones can be almost impossible, as for a broad Glasgow one, it has the capacity to scare the living daylights out of you.

Some of the really good ones are unfortunately dying out, the real old Essex accent has all but gone.

Here is a link to the British Library sites, find the Byker one, North East of England, just over half way up on the right hand side on the map, you just click on the little man symbol and you can then listen to the accent, often interviewer first then the regional voice.

    http://www.bl.uk/learning/langlit/sounds鈥?/a>
Yes my dear us Brits do indeed watch American movies, as to why you can't understand some British accents I'm not surprised really. Liverpool has a very strong accent, as does certain parts of Yorkshire. I myself am Scottish and used to have a very broad accent too, but after many years of living in different countries it has toned down somewhat, but I have no intentions of ever losing my Scottish accent, because we kick A*rse and I'm very proud of where I come from.Do British people watch American movies?America is one of the biggest countries with an enormous film industry.

Basically at nearly every cinema in the UK you will find lots of American movies. The british film industry isn't very big but still makes good films but it as to rely on FOX for money distribution.

Oh and the guy you can't understand is an exception....lol He will have had a very strong accent (even I can't understand sometimes).

We are not on a different world so yes we do watch your films %26lt;3 Dark KnightDo British people watch American movies?
    Hello

Yes we do watch your films, they have invaded our culture due to the fact that the studios in America sell them cheap around the world as a secondary revenue stream and of course also as a way of soft invasion (these films effectively export the American world view). It is much the same with McDonald's and Coca Cola etc. It should not be forgotten that ever since the demise of the Bretten Woods agreement which ended the gold standard that the US Dollar has been the trade rate base for oil etc ( this does give the American economy an unfair advantage) (this situation is less so now due to the weak state of the American currency). We do have our own film industry which does make many films a year, we also provide the special effects for many films worldwide including CGI for many American films.
yes we do. but we have a hard time understanding words like cuz, ain't got nothing, means you've got something ( double negative. Phonetically = , nooz, sherruff, stoodent, missal, symultaneous. add ress, accidaint, payriss. Made up words like burglarised, snuck. all words ending in our changed to or. All words ending in ight changed to ite ie nite. Tyre changed to tire. You say things like we have no instead of we haven't any. You don't use the negatives of verbs ie can, can't, do, don't ,is, isn't ,will. won't with, without. you say with no Then you wonder why you P i s s us off.

It's the Americans who have the accent we are English, it is our languageDo British people watch American movies?
We watch your films, and you speak our language (English originally) The Liverpool guy has a dialect, a local twang to his area. There are many dialects in UK and USA. It sounds like you've never heard anyone outside USA talking.

Films, have you never heard of James Bond, or Silence of the Lambs, with Jodie Foster (USA) and Sir Anthony Hopkins (UK). Watch it and see if one is talking a foreign language? I'm confused by your question to be honest, you need to meet more people. Best wishes.
    Of course.

American Hollywood movies and TV shows are exported all around the World. The British movie industry is low budget but there have been a lot of movies from the UK shown in the USA: Trainspotting, Snatch, The Real Monty, The English Patient, Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels..

and then there's all the Hollywood movies featuring British Actors: Lord Of The Rings, Star Wars (the prequels), Harry Potter, 300, Notting Hill.

    You've probably seen a few.
Yes the UK make some..........i don't watch many movies but the ones we see over here are the ones you see over there.....many are written and directed by British guys in fact i think 'slumdog millionaire' a British film i have never seen either won a couple of awards.

Maybe you don't get our humour (note the 'u'). But Monty python, life of Brian, 4 weddings and a funeral, Brigit Jones Diary....fed up now.....oh lets not forget James Bond...etc etc etc!

Sorry i have to keep going....we also watch other films other than British and US, Austrian (Murials Wedding), many many films from 'Bollywood'.........and these ones are realistic without that sickly emotional thing you guys seem to like in even the funniest of films..

    Cheers

    Cheers
gAAhhaH!! keep an eye on that scally kid from liverpool... they steal your stuff and stab folk! Sorry to hear that they have infected America too.

We do have a very successful film industry in the UK but they aren't big budget and hyped as much.

Nearly all tv programs in the uk are American and yes we watch your films!
Yeah. American movies are the mainstream so everyone watches them. There is a small British film industry and its brilliant. I can understand most American accents.
ye that guy is a scouser they are scum lol im not sure about a british film industry but yeah i like british films and love american movies!

Do you think Japanese Horror movies are better concieved than American horror movies?

I just wonder why so many american horror movies these days are remakes of Japanese movies. Are american writters just out of unique ideas?Do you think Japanese Horror movies are better concieved than American horror movies?they have awsome plots but cheesy acting so if they could write the stories and gore and we could do the production of it we might have a great horror movie to see for a changeDo you think Japanese Horror movies are better concieved than American horror movies?I think they are heaps better, and alot more scarier.Do you think Japanese Horror movies are better concieved than American horror movies?A lot of the horror conventions of Western culture are played out. I mean, how many times have we seen flicks about mummies, vampires, werewolves, and masked psycho killers? A large part of the appeal of the Japanese (and Thai) horror films is that they come from different cultural underpinnings than most Westerners are used to, and so they scare us in new ways. The differences between American and Japanese ghosts, for instance, are pretty marked. Your American ghost is either all up in your face, screaming and putting up a racket, or is lurking about mournfully in hopes that someone will help it to its final rest. Japanese ghosts tend to be forces of nature that reek of inexplicable malevolence and that can't really be reasoned with or understood--there's not really any logical thing you can do to put them away. They simply are.Do you think Japanese Horror movies are better concieved than American horror movies?
I think, that even though they are usually seen with subtitles on they are fantastic! They are more unique, with stuff that american writers would never dare to even think.

The ideas that they come up with seem like they come from such a dark place that it has to be written.

I don't know maybe I am just weird, but I always tend to get a little creeped when I watch them, and I love it.

Does all / most of the American male like to lick female genitals as shown in most of Hollywood movies?

I am from Asia , %26amp; we never indulge in licking female vagina or the female licking penis.

Most of US movies do show as if this is common practice followed by most of big-city living folks.

How does you people put your mouth at a place designed for expulsion of bodily toxic?

For me, it is a very henious task to accomplish.

Do most of American men lick there partner there?Does all / most of the American male like to lick female genitals as shown in most of Hollywood movies? My boyfriend loves to give me oral sex and I love to make him feel good and if that means me giving him oral sex I'm more than willing. If you ever get the chance to have it done to you , you will be coming back more and that's a promise .Does all / most of the American male like to lick female genitals as shown in most of Hollywood movies?
First of all, you are incorrect. Plenty of asians indulge in oral sex. Your experiences probably relate to your repulsion towards the act, and your partner is merely agreeing with you, whether they share your repulsion or not, because of your attitude. (I know this, because I have spent extensive time in Asia... Japan, Thailand, China, and know first hand that asians are receptive to giving and receinving it.

Secondly, if the object of this act, either male or female, is properly clean, there is no trace of the "bodily toxic" as you refer to it.Does all / most of the American male like to lick female genitals as shown in most of Hollywood movies?Oral sex is popular with individuals from many nations.

There are indeed Asians who also do this, you evidently haven't seen much Asian porn.

And oral sex isn't any more dangerous than other sexual practices.Does all / most of the American male like to lick female genitals as shown in most of Hollywood movies?

Does it bother anybody else how they say in movies "American lives"...?

I don't why. I love watching some of the American movies and TV shows. But why do most agents or police officials or reporters in movies have to emphasize the "the loss of AMERICAN lives" or "danger to AMERICAN lives".

It's like they are saying Americans care only for their countrymen or that lives of other people are not important.

Why do they do that?Does it bother anybody else how they say in movies "American lives"...?I have noticed that as well.......the first time i heard that phrase it was in relation to an international flight that had crashed and i assumed that the reason the distinction was made was so that american families would know that they should contact the airline to inquire about relatives who were on the flight.....however, it seems that the "AMERICAN LIVES" tag has become more of a buzzword for news reporters etc...especially since Sept. 11......i agree that it can sound cavalier about the lives that were lost but weren't "AMERICAN"........it's a disturbing choice of words that seems to be more and more widely used.....if the intention is to seem more patriotic then i believe the wording could be changed to still convey patriotism without losing sight of empathy for the other nations who have lost citizens as well....afterall, we are all fellow citizens on a global scaleDoes it bother anybody else how they say in movies "American lives"...?Simple, these tv shows and movies are generally made with the American public in mind, or should i say they are made for Americans, and are latter ported around the world, i don't believe they are trying to convey a feeling that Americans only care about other Americans, it's just sort of a trend for some movies/tv shows to have a patriotic undertone to them.

    Do Australians watch American movies?

    I have three questions:

    1. I've heard American movies, TV shows, and songs are popular in Australia. Is that true?

    2. Is the Australian movie industry, if there is one, pressured by heavy marketing on part of the Americans?

    3. Why is the Australian movie industry (again, assuming there is one) not as powerful as Hollywood or Bollywood?Do Australians watch American movies?American movies, TV shows and songs are all very popular in Australia. TV shows in particular are usually about a season behind the US, but we eventually get them and they dominate Australian TV even though we do have a lot of good quality TV production here. Movies usually release a few months after US release.

We have a thriving movie industry, but having such a small population makes it difficult to finance anything with a really big budget. Australian films are fairly widely shown, but the huge marketing pressure from American studios makes it virtually impossible for our films to be released on nearly as many screens as American films so they never enjoy the same success as films from the US.

Many US movies are filmed here as our film professionals are highly respected and filming here is cheaper than in the US. There are also large numbers of Australian film professionals working in America and other places overseas.

I think I've answered your question about why our movie industry isn't as powerful as the others, but you only need to compare our 22 million population to the others to have the point driven home.Do Australians watch American movies?

There are a few Australian tv shows, and movies.. But American is what most people see most.
90% of our media is from America , so yeah i guess it is pressured by marketing from the Americans. i have no clue why its not as big as Hollywood , maybe a culture thing , Australia's only really around 100 years old
