Do Brits watch American movies?

Three questions:

1. Apparently American movies, TV shows, and songs are popular in England. Is that true?

2. Is the British movie industry, if there is one, pressured by heavy marketing by the Americans?

3. Why is the British movie industry (again, assuming there is one) not as powerful as Hollywood or Bollywood? These two movie industry dominate most of the world market.Do Brits watch American movies?yes! the vast majority of films / movies in the uk are american. there are very few british ones made simply due to the cost and finances of making them. the full monty was a british film, i think it was the biggest success in terms of box office takings. british films don't have the budgets.Do Brits watch American movies?
Yes, there is a 'like it or lump it' attitude by presenters

No, there is no pressure.

We prefer truth in our films, not a Hollywood factual film that changes historical facts with each director. I heard that Hollywood is going to do a remake of the Battle of Hastings in 1066 and the americans win the war with a little help from their ally, William of Orange and we prefer quality over quantity. The Bollywood movies are all a remake of the original one, an all singing all dancing boy loves girl boy loses girl boy finds girl again amid singing and dancing like a dervish.Do Brits watch American movies?1. Of course. There's no getting away from them!

2. Yes.

3. Money. The American market is so big that they can make movies pricipally for domestic consumption, then sell them to everyone else; and if for some reason they don't sell its no big deal. Thus the norms of movies become American norms. Other countries can rarely afford to make films that appeal only to the domestic audience, so they have to try and imitate American ones or not bother. That applies to Britain like anywhere else; maybe more so because there is less of a language barrier to protect our own films. Having said that, there have been lots of great British movies, but you may not be aware of them.

Bollywood is unique in that it's not really competing with Hollywood; it has a specialist niche, with films churned out for a particular audience en masse and on the cheap.
well it is good to see that we are not lumped together all of the time. There is indeed a "british" movie industry but its not what it was back in the Ealing days of old. There are several factors which I think are to do with studio resources, distribution and location. Many big film makers have their distribution networks based either in the states or main land europe (the latter being an economic gateway to bot emerging Europe and eastern markets). There is how ever a growing industry north of the border which is often selected for its fantastic locations, established and emerging talents (both in front of and behind the camera) and the finance that scotland can attract. The other reason being that with the number of channels increasing and so many production companies in the us, it is well cheaper to sort though ready made stuff than make your own. TV shows, American movies, and songs are prefered in Scotland too.Do Brits watch American movies?Well,we Yanks also love a good British movie. Three very good ones that come to mind are; Brassed Off(with Tara Fitzgerald), Sirens(Also with Tara Fitzgerald) and one of the greatest movies EVER made; Waking Ned Devine.

EDIT: Thumbs down for Waking Ned Devine?! LOL

"Don't take it personally, Finn, but I bought you some expensive, fruity soaps. Take them home, try them out."Do Brits watch American movies?
Yeah i think the whole world watch the american movies.

British industry haven't done anything great in this area and only Bollywood and Hollywood are the most popular movie industries in this world.

The reason can be that people from both the countries are spread world wide.
I was going to answer this as I thought you were asking British people, maybe not, maybe you mean English people? In that case, I'm not English.

Is it so feckin hard for people to understand the difference?Do Brits watch American movies?
