Why are American movies so popular?

Generous budgets. And if you're like George Lucas, you not only can do what ever you please, but you have the money, people, place, and equipment to do it.



The most popular movies have several things going for it. The action begins very soon in the movie, the acting is for the most part, done well, the photography is great as well as the special effects. If there is a moral in the movie, it's not preachy.



For many movies, the less amount of cursing and sex, compared with say, the more amount of fight and battle scenes, the movie does better than in-your-face sex and violence. Throw in a few witches, elves, jets and spaceships and you've got a blockbuster.



The question should be, why don't we see more movies from other countries? The market is there and it's huge. And not the little art house movies that make you wonder what you just watched. Bollywood, India's "version" of Hollywood has a giant film industry yet we never see anything from there. I'm sure their budgets are at least as generous for marketing overseas.



Lots of American movies are made elsewhere, so there's the awareness. And England has Pinewood Studios, a movie making special effects stage with its own credentials.Why are American movies so popular?There are plenty of world cimema films out there - most of them are much better than the usual Hollywood pap. In fact, alot of Hollywood films steal ideas from great films like Am茅lie (if you haven't seen Am茅lie, go watch it!)

Or go to a decent DVD rental shop. Also, BBC Four usually have some good films showing.

Unfortunately, the wealthy 'Hollywood elite' have saturated the market - and for some reason alot of people like to watch these kind of films (most of which are repetetive, tedious and predictable.)



There are also other cinemas out there who show world and independent films. If you're ever in Brighton, check out Duke of York's Picturehouse - you can even buy booze or take drink in with you.
I don't think they make the best movies, they are just a big known country, have lots of money so their movies are shown more in other countries, there has been amazing films from lots of different countries but they are just not shown world wide unlike american movies. But not all american movies are made by americans, lots of directors and other people who make movies go to america to make their movies so their movie isnt really american.Why are American movies so popular?1) Lots of people speak English

The vast majority of great film is made outside of America. Americans tend to have an inflated opinion about everything we do, but film is certainly something that other countries do better, at least for the most part.
american films are so popular because they make more films than the uk and they have a bigger publicity machine.also alot of the "british" movies are american financed anyway.Why are American movies so popular?
