1. I've heard American movies, TV shows, and songs are popular in England. Is that true?
2. Is the British movie industry, if there is one, pressured by heavy marketing on part of the Americans?
3. Why is the British movie industry (again, assuming there is one) not as powerful as Hollywood or Bollywood?Do Brits watch American movies?American t.v. and cinema is quite popular. The current shows are downloaded from various websites as are most movies. Most music is released there simultaneously.
I don't know what you mean about the British film industry being "pressured heavy marketing on the part of Americans."
The U.S. is enormous and the movie industry is enormous, drawing from all parts of the country. The movies are supported by a vast population and are a multi-billion dollar industry. Britain is a tiny island with a relatively small population. Do the math. There is no comparison.Do Brits watch American movies?
they watch alot of american shows. dunno why, but they have a very limited tv base of their own. thus the BBC. its all owned by the government. and everyone has to pay tv taxes. kinda crazy, but thats why its not as powerful, because there isnt a media mogul driving it for his own purposes.Do Brits watch American movies?I really don't see why they'd want to. Today's cinema is, to say the least, terrible.Do Brits watch American movies?
England and Britain ARE NOT the same thing. Britain also includes Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland. I am sorry to say that your ignorance will upset %26amp; anger a lot of people.
That aside:
1: Yes - most films are made in Hollywood. I personally loved
the X Files etc.
2: There are English, Scottish %26amp; I dare say Welsh %26amp; Northern
Irish film industries. No, in Scotland at least they are not
pressurised by Heavy Marketing on behalf of the
Americans. Don't know about elsewhere though.
3: The film industries in the UK don't have all of that cash that
is pumped into them, that's why.Do Brits watch American movies?1,Unfortunately , YES, kids especially watch too much American product, so much so they are copying US words and actions.
2/3, shows pure US parochialism. We are a small country, and our film industry does not get government support, as some other counties do.Do Brits watch American movies?
Goodness me... Firstly, to Cor: that is an UNBELIEVABLY ignorant asnwer. I'm in the UK and I have 700 cable channels. The BBC is not the be all and end all of TV in the UK - in fact, it only has 4 channels.
In answer to the other questions:
1) American movies are very popular here, but in terms of TV, it tends to be mainly the obviously successful shows that we screen. There is a lot of home grown television produced here
2) The British film industry doesn't seem to be subject t American pressure, and the number of independent films produced is rising every year.
3) The size and power of the industry is simply down to statistics. When you consider that the UK could fit into Texas more than twice (if I remember correctly), and that our population is only double that of the number of people who vote on American Idol every week, then you can see that it will always be hard to compete with such massive established industries like Hollywood and Bollywood.
what do you mean "the British movie industry (assuming there is one)"...........of course there is a British movie industry - haven't you heard of the Ealing comedies or Monty Python? What about 28 Days Later, Shawn of the Dead, Gosford Park, James Bond or Harry Potter?
No?
In answer to your last question - the British movie industry is no Hollywood, but I think they do produce quality rather than quantity in many cases. Try the following website and see how many of the films on there you recognise that you perhaps thought were US productions
