If not, what about highbrow movies like C.S.I or 24? If they do not know most of the specialized terms in those shows, will they turn the subtitles on?Except for deaf people, do americans ever watch american movies with the english subtitles on?I like to turn the caption on. Sometimes I miss something, or the actor's mumble their words, or they try to make it suspensful so the talk very soft and garbled. I just have an easier time understanding a movie or show with the caption on. When it is live TV, however, I turn them off because the caption is always behind the speaker and its rather annoying.Except for deaf people, do americans ever watch american movies with the english subtitles on?
im not deaf but i like the subtitles cuz i dont like the volume very high so that way i dont miss anything!!!Except for deaf people, do americans ever watch american movies with the english subtitles on?Sometimes. depends on my mood.
Sometimes if its a movie I really like, for example, the Lord of the Rings Trilogy, when they use a lot of words that are more common in the UK rather than the US, I will watch the subtitles so I can look those words up. Also, I will turn the subtitle on if it is really noisy in the house, ie someone vacuuming, playing loud music, doing laundry, etc, so I don't miss anything.Except for deaf people, do americans ever watch american movies with the english subtitles on?I work in a bar and we always have the subtitles on so that people who are trying to watch tv can figure out what is going on above the noise. I also make my kids watch tv with the volume very low and subtitles on to encourage reading...Except for deaf people, do americans ever watch american movies with the english subtitles on?
Yes Americans who aren't deaf watch American movies (and TV for that matter) with English subtitles on. It can help if someone is learning to read and it also helps English learners (whether they are American of not). Also, tv with subtitles on (and put on mute) is often shown in gyms as to not bother people who don't want to hear/watch tv.
I like to have the subtitles on because sometimes words aren't clear, I have found that often things are missed otherwise.Except for deaf people, do americans ever watch american movies with the english subtitles on?
When things get loud at my house I turn on the mute button on the TV and read the subtitles, its easier for me to follow than trying to listen when its so noisy.
I'm not an american but i prefer to watch movies and tv shows with the subtitles and I don't know why.
Yes, especially when the baby's in the room or my roommate is asleep.
I use the subtitles because that way I don't have to mess with the volume as much. Otherwise I have to hold the controller to put the volume up or down depending on the scene.
As far as the movies, I will turn them on,
if I am trying to catch something I have missed.
Yes - sometimes so I don't have to turn the volume up too loud - and sometimes when I miss things in the dialogue, e.g. any episode of "Deadwood."
I always have subtitles on. That way I dont miss anything anyone says
