The best one I can think of off the top of my head is The Talented Mr Ripley with Matt Damon and Jude Law. Based on a Patricia Highsmith book, this movie (directed by an Englishman!) is exceptionally good - a fantastically creepy and exciting thriller set in several wonderful European locations.
Another classic is Don't Look Now which was made in the 70s with Donald Sutherland and set in Venice.
There are, of course, countless American war movies set in Europe, from The Great Escape to the dark and amazing musical, Cabaret, and the Bourne series is also set in locations across the continent.
A classic horror comedy is An American Werewolf in London.
