Besides "The Pursuit of Happiness", what are some other movies (preferably recent) that involve the American dream??What are some movies that involve the concept of the 'American Dream'?Without a doubt, one called Of Mice and Men. I studied it in English last year. It's about two guys called Lennie and George (set in roughly 1930) who seek work hoping to earn enough money to purchase their own little farm, but thanks to Lennie (who is a bit...slow...if you know what I mean) they get kicked out of most towns and jobs because of his child-like mind and actions. Eventually they find a place and the story follows their lives as they work at this ranch and meet a lot of different people who are subject to racism, violence and trapped in poor relationships etc. Lennie makes a hash of it again though but this time George and Lennie don't run away, instead something else happens - I won't ruin it for you ;) I'm really really really not a fan or reading and literature but I found this book (which is also a film on dvd which I have seen and sticks very closely to the book) pretty interesting and would recommend it.
It's quite central around the idea of the American Dream how it is what motivates the characters to keep going and working for their dream and they meet another character along the way who also wants to invest in the possibility of owning this dream farm which proves how popular the idea of the dream is, and how it is wanted so badly by so many people.
