Because we're reaching a point in society where everything has already been done. People are running out of ideasWhy are American movies getting worse?Movies cost too much to make and market because everyone gets a piece of the profits (producers, distributors, theaters, writers, actors, directors, etc.). So they have to make what appeals to the broadest base of moviegoers, or else they won't be in business.
However, people aren't lazy. If the American public stops going to see remakes and sequels, then the studios will go where the money is. Don't ever forget that movies are a business -- it's nice to flaunt your lofty ideals, I hope you continue to do it so maybe we get better films -- but if you want a successful business, then you do what you must to stay alive. Don't blame Hollywood. Just close your wallet.

Um. The Orphanage was really amazing. But, then again, it's not english. It's spanish with english subtitles.
