a movie does not show what real war is like. its completly different. movies make it seem like its all a load of fun and lots of shooting and action.



the reality is that war is made up of 10% intense fighting, 90% bordem or inactivity.



as you said above, it is all like that, when they have big arguments in the movies it doesnt happen in real life. in real life they all work as a team and respect the rank system. most arguing is kept to a minimum.



However some are more realistic than others. personaly i havn't seen Jarhead but it proberbly isnt a true reflection of war, as with most war films.Why do American movies portray their soldiers as............?Jarhead is quite a good movie, the main character strikes me a reasonably intelligent. Private Joker in FMJ is hardly a moron. But I get your point, a lot of characters do seem a bit dumb, but they are just that characters. What i find more disturbing is the shoddy discipline, lack of pride in appearance, drunkenness, drug use, unnecessary wearing of bandannas a la Rambo now copied by war lords, genocidal militias and boy soldiers the world over. They are influenced by these movies.
If you're relying on Hollywood to get your information about the U.S. military, there's really not much else I can say to you.

Writers, producers, directors have no familiarity with real military. You can't accurately portray what you don't know.
Jarhead is a disgrace to the USMC, same as how The Mark Of Cain tried to show an anti - war film about the Iraq war but just showed that British troops tortured "innocent" suspects just for fun.Why do American movies portray their soldiers as............?

That Movie in particular is of no use to any sort of conclusion. It was a stupid movie anyway.
