What do Germans think of American made World War II movies like Inglorious Basterds or Band of Brothers?

I really like World War II movies and Tarantino's violent fantasy Inglorious Basterds. I also love Germans I've met and like visiting Germany. What do modern day Germans think of these movies? Do they watch them or is it too uncomfortable?What do Germans think of American made World War II movies like Inglorious Basterds or Band of Brothers?German war movies can do without heroes, that makes them different. I think they are not well-known in America, "Das Boot" may be the one exception to some extend. And even that film is an example for this difference. Hollywood war movies can't be without American heroes against evil Germans. Oh, yes, I know, there is this modern excuse that the movies would be against Nazis, not against Germans. I don't know the trick how to see it like this, there is no switch in my head that can make me think in such a naive way.

It's mostly young people who are curious and indifferent enough to hang on Hollywood's lips until they are filled to the top sooner or later. I did the same back in the nineteen-seventies and eighties. I don't watch basterds and brother-bands anymore, what I read and hear about them is enough to recognize that they are still the same progaganda about evil Germans and heroic Americans as all the older war movies were.

I wonder how many movies like that have been made between 1940 and 2010. I have never seen any famous Hollywood director make a movie about the USAF burning the home country of the German-Americans to rubble.
