are they in english or are they dubbed in japanese, or even subtitled? also, what are the best movie theaters in the tokyo area? When american movies are released in the japan theaters...?Nearly all the movies in theaters are subtitled. The release times are often delayed a few months to up to nearly a year. Some show up quickly, especially those made for holidays like the Christmas season for example, others take forever due to censorship, contractual and licensing issues. The movies must be approved by the Japanese Film Classification and Rating Committee (Eirin) who judge it for ethics, nudity, etc.
Quite often if it is coming out on DVD in US/Canada, it is just starting its theatrical run in Japan.
Many newer movies shown on TV have a dubbed soundtrack as well as the original. Famous actors have a single Japanese voice actor to speak for him/her (i.e. you don't see 2+ people speaking Japanese for Brad Pitt). And when you watch the movie in English, the dialog is not censored to death either -- which is another refreshing aspect of Japan. When american movies are released in the japan theaters...?
Both, they are subtitled and dubbed for the people who get tired of reading. Since u mention it, i find it funny, that when a american movie comes out here in japan and if it is dubbed in Japanese.
